When Ford Motor Co. launched its EcoBoost we were promised to see it in a full lineup. For 2011 we will be seeing it in the all new F-150.
The F-150 will have the option of a 3.5 liter V6 Turbo Charged EcoBoost engine. This will be in addition to the 5 Liter V8 and naturally aspirated 3.7 Liter V6. Ford is trying to broaden their portfolio in the Half-Ton pickup segment with a more fuel efficient truck. They are trying to bring back the people that left this market when fuel prices sky rocketed, followed by a deep recession.
Now as more people are returning back to the truck market, people are still looking for more fuel efficient vehicles like every other new car buyer. The new 2011 F-150 lineup seams it may have the answer everyone is looking for. It’s been said that the entire F-150 lineup will have a increase of fuel efficiency by 20 percent compared to 2010.
Ford believes that the turbo charged 3.5 liter will be the premium choice of engines available and will be in all trim levels when it hits early next year.
The EcoBoost technology is built up of 3 different things. Turbo charging, direct fuel injection, and variable camshaft timing for both intake and exhaust valve camshafts.
The engineers haven’t yet come out with the final numbers on the EcoBoost but said it will have a 20 percent increase in fuel efficiency over the 2010 F-150 5.4 liter V8 that got 14 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the freeway in the 2-wheel drive. If Ford can do what they say then can you will be able to see 24 miles per gallon in 2011.
