Car Manufacture Mahindra and Mahindra was given the O.K. to sell compact pickups in the U.S. by the Environmental Protection Agency according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The company is very excited and anxious to hit the U.S. market. They believe that they will be shaking up a very competitive market and be able to give it run for it’s money. Mahindra will first start selling a 2.2 Liter four cylinder diesel engine compact truck by December of 2010.
Mahindra was planing on launching the pickup in the U.S. a year ago but did not meet the necessary approval from the EPA. After improving on the truck Mahindra has approval; and is ready to start selling it.
This new pickup is going to be stiff competition for Nissan, Toyota, Ford, and GM as it is the only small pickup to have a diesel engine. Mahindra says it will be getting 30 miles per gallon. In some cases that’s 50% better then some trucks on the market. As of now only the big 3 are offering a diesel engine in Heavy Duty pickups.
Small pickup trucks with good fuel economy is expected to bring a lot of buyers that wanted a pickup but didn’t want the poor fuel economy. Following the arrival of the pickup, Mahindra is also planing on selling a SUV here next year. It’s a version of it’s Scorpio SUV, and a hybrid SUV for sale by 2013.
